“In the dirt. Great save by Baker. Mmm. Wonderful play by the catcher. Isn’t it amazing, the crowd never roars? Somebody else might make a play, ‘Look at that! Wow!’ But the crowd, not a word. A catcher’s play, always overlooked.”

As a former catcher and the father of a catcher, this is so absolutely true..

“I’ve never seen a more classless, gutless, chicken-shit act in my 30 years in baseball. Cole Hamels says he’s old school? He’s the polar opposite of old school. He’s fake tough. He thinks he’s going to intimidate us after hitting our 19-year rookie who’s eight games into the big leagues? He doesn’t know who he’s dealing with.”
— Mike Rizzo, Nationals GM, has Bryce Harper’s back
Here’s the thing though, in the National League when you do something like what Hamels did, you know as a pitcher that you will become a target. You make the calculated assessment of the situation and you are OK with the outcome. He didn’t throw at Harper’s head, which probably is the reason he was hit in the ankle. Harper’s aggressive base running probably had everything to do with getting hit as opposed to getting on base any other way. I think it was a win-win all around personally.
That being said, I do like the Nat’s GM having Harper’s back.
H1. - When are you leaving?
f2h1gg:
Wife: When are you leaving?
Me: Soon. Well soonish. I’m in the middle of something and when I finish it I’ll leave. Shouldn’t take long.
Wife: That means nothing to me. What does that mean?
Me: Well… I’m trying not to be an ass-hole, seriously I don’t want it to sound like an ass-hole, cause I don’t mean it that way and say ‘The sooner I get off the phone the sooner I can leave.’
Cannot tell you the amount of times I’ve had this same conversation…
